A great appetizer does two jobs: it gets people talking, and it keeps everyone happy until dinner is ready. The best ones are also easy on the host.
These are my favorite easy appetizer recipes: creamy dips, smoked salmon bites, deviled eggs, crostini, hummus and a few crunchy snacks. Many of them come together in 15 minutes or less, and most can be made a day ahead.
How to Build an Appetizer Spread
Aim for a mix of textures and flavors: something creamy (a dip), something crunchy (crackers, spiced nuts or chickpeas), something fresh (crudités or a crostini with tomatoes), and something with protein (smoked salmon or deviled eggs). One sweet-and-salty option, like goat cheese stuffed dates, rounds it out.

FAQs About Easy Appetizer Recipes
What are the easiest appetizers to make?
Dips are the easiest: goat cheese dip, whipped feta and hummus each take about 5 to 10 minutes in a food processor. Smoked salmon on cucumber rounds and goat cheese stuffed dates are almost as quick.
Which appetizers can I make ahead?
Dips, hummus, deviled egg filling, spiced chickpeas, cardamom almonds and the almond flour crackers can all be made a day or two ahead. Assemble crostini and smoked salmon bites close to serving time so they stay fresh.
How many appetizers should I make for a party?
If you’re serving dinner afterward, plan on 4 to 6 bites per person and 3 or 4 different appetizers. For an appetizer-only party, plan on 10 to 14 bites per person and 5 or 6 options.
If you’re only making one, make the Goat Cheese Dip (aka The Dip). It takes 5 minutes, and it’s one of the most popular appetizers on my site. For the holidays, see my Healthy Holiday Appetizers.
