You’re passionate about healthy living, but did you know that you can become a health coach and turn that passion into expertise or a career?

The health & wellness industry has soared over the last two decades and keeps growing exponentially. The idea that people want to live happier, healthier lives isn’t going to change any time soon. In fact, health is becoming more and more important with each passing year.

When you become a health coach, you can transform your life and the lives of the people around you.

First up, let’s talk about what a health coach is and what a health coach is not.

What is a health coach?

A health coach is a person who has studied to become a wellness expert and mentor who helps people feel their best through personalized food and lifestyle changes.

Health Coaches encourage healthy habits and motivate clients to discover the best wellness routines that work for them and empower them to meet their unique health goals.

Health coaches do not diagnose or treat diseases.

As a health coach, you can both improve your own health while also helping other people develop healthier habits and live happier lives. If you decide to make health coaching a career, you get to be your own boss, work from anywhere and on your own time, and do something you actually love.

Not sure whether this is the right path for you? Read on, as I’ve identified 3 ways to know whether you should become a health coach or not.

3 Ways to Know if You Should Become a Health Coach

1. You Want to Improve Your Health for Personal Reasons

Not every one that becomes a health coach makes a career out of it. In fact, many people become health coaches simply to improve their own health.

Dealing with health problems impacts your entire life.

From your personal to your professional life, health conditions can interfere with or overshadow your wellbeing, relationships, productivity, and future. While some people write having minor health issues like lethargy, back or joint pains, or indigestion off as normal, they do take a toll on their happiness and stress levels.

When you deal with health problems, your daily tasks can become more challenging, and you may also deal with serious financial stress and, in the most severe cases, the inability to earn a living.

One way to enhance your health and wellbeing is to commit to healthier habits and, ultimately, master your own health.

Becoming deeply knowledgeable about health, wellness, and fitness with all its intricacies allows you to take charge of your life and ensure you live to the best of your abilities. It may start with small steps that foster healthy habits. Then, with each change, you get to witness your own transformation take place. You will start feeling more alive, happy, and stress-free.

Additionally, even if you don’t want to make a career out of it, you can help your family and friends improve their health and wellbeing, too. Once you have acquired all the knowledge and skills it takes to transform and master your own health, you can guide others to do the same.

There’s no better gift you can give a loved one than optimal health. Aging parents and family members with health conditions can especially benefit from your health coaching. Whether you decide to make a career out of it or just practice it privately for yourself, friends, and family, everyone can benefit.

2. You Want to Enhance Your Knowledge

If you’re a health professional like a nurse, nutritionist, fitness expert, or person working in wellness, then seeking to broaden and deepen your knowledge can better help your patients, clients, and customers.

Many doctors, naturopaths, acupuncturists, and other health professionals also choose to become health coaches to enhance their current knowledge.

If you become a health coach to enhance your current training or knowledge, your responsibilities can vary depending on whether you pursue your own full-time coaching practice or want to support another health practitioner such as a doctor, dietitian, or nutritionist. You can also start a business as I did with this blog or do something entirely different like start a healthy meal delivery service or wellness center.

Joining an in-depth program will introduce you to the intricacies of achieving optimal health that you wouldn’t be able to research on your own.

You get to explore the science behind wellness concepts, learn how to connect your mind with your body, and dive deep into exciting topics with world-renowned experts on topics like gut health, biohacking, nutrigenomics, psychospirituality, and more.

Once you complete the program, you have a more well-rounded understanding of different healing modalities, all of which you can use to further your career as a health professional.

3. You Want a Full-Time Career in Health Coaching

It’s not uncommon for people to feel unfulfilled in their jobs. And, the pressure of paying the bills can prevent from taking the leap and changing careers. The thought of earning money and positively impacting the world while doing something they love seems unimaginable, but it is possible.

Many corporate jobs have you build someone else’s dream while you earn an average salary. You do mundane tasks, work long hours, and you don’t feel fulfilled, lack purpose, or feel like you aren’t making any impact. It’s not uncommon for stressful work environments to cause unhealthy habits that make you feel sluggish and unwell.

As a health coach, you get to turn that around. You take control of your own time and health while doing something you love. In addition, you get to contribute to people’s lives in a meaningful way by teaching them how to foster healthy habits.

If your thoughts have been centering around leaving your job, changing careers, and becoming a health coach, then there’s no better time to do that than now. A career transition can be daunting but with the right guidance, it doesn’t have to be! It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Many people study to become a health coach while still working their current jobs (I certainly did!).
