Ultimate Beauty Smoothie Elizabeth Rider Blog

When it comes to natural beauty, food is one of your most powerful tools.

Along with that, it’s all about hydration and antioxidants when it comes to beauty from the inside out!

This Ultimate Beauty Smoothie is my favorite breakfast, lunch, or mid-day snack to give your skin a boost from the inside out.

Ultimate Beauty Smoothie Ingredient Benefits

Collagen Powder

Collagen powder is having a hot moment in nutrition right now, for good reason. Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body—think of it as the scaffolding that holds your body together. Add a scoop of natural collagen powder to a smoothie every day for a month and watch your hair, skin, and nails improve. It’s not vegan, so read the label and see if it’s for you. I like the one by Vital Proteins. Since it’s not a complete protein, don’t rely on collagen as your main source of protein. However, it has great health benefits and is a great addition to your natural beauty routine.

Coconut Water

Coconut water is full of electrolytes that will help you maintain a natural balance of hydration in your body, which in turn does wonders for your skin. Dehydration is the number one thing that will sabotage your natural beauty efforts. If you don’t have coconut water, you can use plain filtered water with a pinch of sea salt for electrolytes.

Fresh Lemon Juice

Every cell in your body loves vitamin C, especially your skin cells. Fresh lemon juice provides a boost of vitamin C and natural enzymes to keep you looking as fresh as a lemon. Vitamin C also regulates the synthesis of the structural protein collagen in your body, so they go together hand-in-hand (science is fun!). Always use fresh lemon juice, never the stuff from a jar as it will have been pasteurized and stripped of its enzymes. It also adds a delightful tangy flavor to your smoothie and pairs nicely with the strawberries.

Strawberries

Any high-water fresh fruit will work in this smoothie, so grab what’s a good price at the store. High-water fruits include most berries, cantaloupe, oranges, peaches, and pineapple. Berries are low in sugar so I prefer them here, and the strawberries, banana, and lemon just go really well together. Strawberries are also high in vitamin C, so you’ll get an extra beauty boost from them, too.

Hemp Seeds

Hemp seeds add some healthy fat to your smoothie, which will help you absorb all of the nutrients you’re consuming. They also contain protein that your hair and nails need to grow. You can substitute flax seeds or chia seeds for the same effect. I like to rotate through the three depending on the day.

Banana

I almost always add 1/2 of a frozen banana to my smoothies to make them extra creamy and smoothie-like. Bananas are packed with potassium, fiber, and even more water. You can leave this out if you don’t dig bananas.

Probiotic

Probiotics are the good bacteria that your gut needs to thrive. Adding a dose of probiotic powder to your smoothies helps ensure you maintain a balance of the good and bad bacteria in your digestive system. Great health (thus looking good from the inside out) starts in your gut. If you already ate fermented foods the same day you make this you can skip it, but sneaking it into a smoothie is a great way to boost your gut health.
