We are definitely going to have a white Christmas here in Montana. The air is crisp and I love the beauty of the snowy mountains against the big Montana sky–it’s pretty dreamy.

I’m getting ready to head to my parents’ house for loads of fun, chats with my sisters, and lots of cuddling with my nephews. I also plan to devour my mom’s delicious holiday food. (Thanks, mom!)

While I believe in the holiday feast, I also believe it’s important to take a few extra steps to make sure our bodies are properly nourished on a daily basis, even on holidays. Here is a yummy whole-food based smoothie that you can enjoy on Christmas morning before the feast begins. The red & green ingredients make it extra festive—your kids will love it, too.

Nourishing your body with the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber, not to mention the extra hydration, will set you up perfectly to enjoy the day and nibble on a few treats without eating the entire dessert table.

Christmas Morning Smoothie Recipe

Serves 1

  • 1 cup strawberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 banana (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or non-dairy milk of your choice)
  • 1 tablespoon avocado
  • 1 tablespoon raw pumpkin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • a handful of ice if you’re using fresh fruit

Method: Blend all ingredients in a high-speed blender, like a Vitamix, until smooth. Sprinkle the top with a pinch of chia seeds and a few extra pumpkin seeds to make it look extra festive.

    I envy your “White Christmas” right now it’s a balmy 37degrees and brown. So terribly wrong considering that I live in Minnesota !
    This smoothie sounds like a winner, my question is what is the best way you have found to save the avocado for the next use?
