This Vanilla Almond Protein Smoothie Tastes Like Cake Batter

    almond-smoothie

Every now and again I make something that’s so darn good I can hardly believe it’s good for me. This is one of those times. Definitely one of those times.

This smoothie tastes like vanilla cake batter and is perfect for either breakfast or a post-workout snack.

The flavor of course will depend on the brand and type of protein powder and other ingredients that you use, so I gave you a photo of what I use below. In general, always look for high-quality and mindfully sourced ingredients without artificial colors, flavors or fillers. I always use vegan pea protein, too.

If I have this for breakfast or lunch I use one serving (3 scoops) of USANA’s Nutrimeal Free™ pea protein. If I have it post weightlifting session then I add an additional half scoop of Vega’s vanilla sport protein for an extra bump of protein. I prefer Nutrimeal Free because pea protein tends to be really grainy and chalky, but this one becomes smooth when blended. I also add a few teaspoons of USANA Fibergy® to all of my smoothies for extra fiber, too. Learn more about why we need the extra fiber and grab another smoothie recipe here.

    Vanilla Almond Protein Smoothie Recipe
(aka The Healthy Cake Batter Smoothie)

    Serves 1

    • 16 ounces of purified water
    • 1 serving high-quality vanilla protein powder (I use this one)
    • 1 frozen banana
    • 2 heaping tablespoons almond butter
    • ⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 teaspoon ground flax seeds
    • 2 teaspoons psyllium husk powder (optional) (I use this one)
    • big handful of ice

Method: Blend all ingredients in a high-speed blender until smooth, about 60 seconds. Start on low and slowly work your way to high for the smoothest result. Enjoy immediately.

Where can I find the nutritional breakdown for your shakes? They look awesome, but I'm tracking my macros as part of a strict keto diet. Thanks for your help, and I'm looking forward to trying your smoothies.
