Smashed Avocado Toast Is Quick, Healthy & Delicious

avocado toast

Smashed avocado toast is one of my favorite go-to savory snacks. It’s a great vegan twist on traditional buttered toast, and tastes even better than butter.

Avocados are packed full of nutrients that will make nourish your cells and body from the inside out, including:

  • vitamin A
  • vitamin C
  • vitamin E (exceptionally high)
  • vitamin K
  • magnesium
  • potassium
  • iron
  • glutathione (antiaging antioxidant)
  • healthy monounsaturated fats
  • soluble & insoluble fiber

The good fats and fiber in the avocado fill you up and help you feel full longer–I always feel happy with two small slices as opposed to eating bread with butter or just olive oil and not being able to stop.

I always prefer a high-quality gluten-free bread, and sprouted-grain bread is also great. Always look for the highest-quality bread you can find, and avoid preservative-laden white bread and anything with the word “enriched” on the label.

This is one of those treats that makes you want to eat healthy, not have to eat healthy.

Smashed Avocado Toast Recipe

Use organic ingredients whenever possible.

Ingredients:

  • 2 small slices gluten-free & whole grain or sprouted grain bread (such as Udi’s or Food For Life)
  • 1 small or 1/2 large ripe avocado, about 2 tablespoons per slice
  • 1 pinch Real Salt or natural garlic sea salt
  • optional: sprinkle of your favorite chili flakes

Method: Lightly toast the bread. While the bread is toasting, mash the avocado with the salt using a fork. Spread the avocado on warm toast then sprinkle with chili flakes if you’re using and enjoy. Every once in a while I’ll add a drizzle of a high-quality extra virgin olive oil for added flavor.

Entertaining Tip: Make 4-6 of these and cut them into 4-8 pieces each for a quick & easy appetizer that will impress your friends. Your kids will love it too.

i like avo with tomato, cheese and onion on toast!! so delicious!! Especially if you sprinkle it with pepper! The cheese probably doesn’t help health wise, but i would prefer that to maccas!

Great Post! I wanted to add an awesome tip for you to try, that I always do: After you spread the avocado on the toast, squeeze a little lemon juice over it and put it under a grill/broiler for a minute or so, until the lemon juice has been absorbed, (but you don’t want to cook the avocado). It makes it super delicious! This was one of my favourite foods as a kid, and still is!!!
